Problem/Solution
presentation
INTRODUCTION
Jordan is a country that needs a lot of
energy to satisfy its population of 7 million
It has several possible energy sources
such as phosphate, shale gas, and
Uranium.
Unfortunately, these sources are not being
extracted and used.

REASONS
There are many reasons as to why these energy sources are not
extracted :
Heavy Budget requires
Not enough investors
Environmental risks
Political tensions
Possible shift to renewable energy

BUDGET
Jordans economy is relatively humble and
taking up several explorations and extractions
will need a large amount of money and this will
be very difficult to facilitate given the current
recession and Syrian refugee infllux.
RENEWABLE ENERGY
Recently, there have been ongoing talks to leave out the
explorations and extractions and rather switch to building
windfarms and solar farms
This will in turn also be more environmentally friendly
However it is still not practical is building solar panels is very
costly
POLITICAL TENSIONS
Jordan has met serious tensions from
Israel regarding exploring near the
dead sea
There is also serious dispute regarding
the Jordan River raft
LIST OF COUNTRIES BY URANIUM RESERVES
Ranking: Country: Amount:
1 Australia
1,243,000 (world's percentage:
23% )
2 Kazakhstan 817,000 (world's percentage: 15% )
3 Russia 546,000 (world's percentage: 10% )
4 South Africa 435,000 (world's percentage: 8% )
5 Canada 423,000 (world's percentage: 8% )
6 USA 342,000 (world's percentage: 6% )
7 Brazil 278,000 (world's percentage: 5% )
8 Namibia 275,000 (world's percentage: 5% )
9 Niger 274,000 (world's percentage: 5% )
10 Ukraine 200,000 (world's percentage: 4% )

URANIUM RESERVES

OIL SHALE
Significant oil shale deposits are
located in Jordan (5.242 billion
metric tons of shale oil or 65
billion metric tons of oil shale)
and Israel (550 million metric
tons of shale oil or 6.5 billion
metric tons of oil shale).
Jordanian oil shales are high
quality, comparable to western
US oil shale, although their
sulfur content is high.

Even with all the presented facts, local and foreign
companies have failed to take advantage of them.
Jordan heavily relies on Egypt for gas and Iraq for oil in
order to obtain electricity.
Several foreign companies try to sign exploration deals
near the dead sea but these deals are never finalized
to economic and political pressure
SOLUTIONS
Cooperation with GCC
Providing interest rates for first 10 years of
operation
Easing political tensions
Encouraging the study of energy
Expanding research
