The film is an adaptation of the first part of the Trilogy
by Henryk Sienkiewicz, which tells the story of the
great passions - love and hate, jealousy and lust for
power. In the Eastern Borderlands in the seventeenth
century between the Republic and the Cossacks war is
coming. The soldier squadron Prince Jeremi
Winiowiecki (Andrzej Seweryn) Jan Skrzetuski
(Micha ebrowski), returns from the Crimea and accidentally frees
the hands of thugs commander of the Cossacks, Bohdan Khmelnytsky
(Bogdan Stupka). Returning to ubnie helps Helena Kurcewiczwna
(Izabella Scorupco) and falls in love with her. He doesnt know, that
the woman was already promised to another man, Bohun (Aleksandr
Domogarov)

The movie holds the fifth place on the list of most
expensive Polish films.

The movie was promoted by the song ,,Dumka na
dwa serca by E.Grniak and M. Szczeniak.

Working on the plan lasted from 6 October 1997 to
28 June 1998.

Some of the photos were shot in the Museum in
Sierpiec.
