The Story of the “Game Title”
This is what makes your game interesting. Think about games you played
when you were young. What was your favorite game? What is your child’s
favorite game? What about the “story” of the game makes children want to
play it?

Your story should tie everything together -- the purpose of your game, what
they are going to learn, and why they should want to play the game.

Look at the sample games to see their stories.

Game Directions
The goal of the game is to…
To play the game you have to…
To win the game you have to…

You don’t have to include these specific headings -- but this is usually what is
included in game directions. You might have a friend or family member
(especially a child) play the game with you after you’ve started to put it together --
it’s a great way to test out your directions. Also -- look at existing games; what
directions do they include?

Game Preparation
•Below is an example. Customize to fit your game…
•Gameboard: Print out slides 9-12, cut off the edges, then tape together
•“Danger” Cards: Print out slides 13-14 (preferably on heavy stock with a
distinct color), then cut into individual question cards
•“Good luck” Cards: Print out slides 15-16 (preferably on heavy stock
with a distinct color), then cut into individual question cards

If your game does not have cards or does not use a board - you won’t
need this slide. You can just delete it and its corresponding button on the
first slide.

Time to play “Title of Game”!
• Create one action button for each question in your game (i.e., 25 questions, 25 buttons). This is
the slide students will return to at the beginning of each turn in order to access the next question.

• There are variations of this on some of the game examples -- see “Journey of the Sea Turtle” for
one example.

Remember, you can change colors, etc.
