Smallpox virus
► Small pox is eradicated from the earth.
► Last case in somalia in 1977.
► Eradication possible: Single stable serotype,
No animal reservoir, easy clinical diagnosis,
no subclinical or carrier state.
► Vaccine contains live attenuated vaccinia
virus.
Molluscum contagiosum virus

►A member of pox family

► Transmitted by close personal contact &
sexually.
► Causes small, pink, papular, wartlike benign
tumors of skin.
► No vaccine.

DNA Non Enveloped Virus

► Non enveloped DNA virus include:

Adenovirus
Papillomavirus
Parvovirus B19
Adenovirus
Adenovirus
► Non enveloped ds DNA virus.
► Contains
protruding fibers which helps in
attachment & are hemagglutinin.
► There are 41 known antigenic types.
Adenovirus

► Transmission: Through aerosol droplet,

fecal-oral, and direct inoculation into
conjunctiva.
► Clinical findings:
► Type - 3, 4, 7 & 21 cause respiratory tract
infection: fever, sorethroat, coyza, bronchitis
& atypical pneumonia.

► Type- 11& 21 cause hemorrhagic cystitis.
► Type-40 & 41 cause infantile gastroenteritis
with nonbloody diarrhea.
Adenovirus
► Isolation of virus by culture.
► Serological test: Antibody titer ( 4 fold rise),
complement fixation test & hemagglutination
inhibition test.
Papillomavirus
Papillomavirus
► Nonenveloped, ds DNA virus.
► There at least 100 types of papillomavirus.
► Some causes malignancies.
► Malignancy is associated with E6 & E7
genes, encodes p53 & retinoblastoma
genes respectively.

► Non-enveloped.

► Associated with Transient aplastic crisis in

patients with sickle cell disease, erythema

infectiosum and congenital infections.
Parvovirus

► Parvovirus B-19 - only human pathogen

► Transmission: Occurs through respiratory

droplet, placenta & blood transfusion

Clinical significance...
