The Harrods motto is Omnia Omnibus Ubique
'everything for everybody, everywhere'.
Selfridges, also known as Selfridge & Co., is a
chain of high end department stores in the
United Kingdom. It was founded by Harry
Gordon Selfridge.
The flagship store on London's Oxford Street is
the second largest shop in the UK (after
Harrods) and opened 15 March 1909.
In 1917, the managing directors of Harrods and
Selfridges made a bet as to which store would
make more profits. Gordon Selfridge lost. His
gift of a silver replica of Harrods still has pride
of place on our Lower Ground Floor.
Harrods is considered a glamorous shopping place. Though
nearly everything is available at Harrods but the target market
segment that Harrods focuses on is the upper class.

Harrods focuses on Acheivers and Believers
mostly and somehow fullfillers aswell.
People visiting Harrods may belong to any age
group but majority of them belong to the
social class A and expect a service that is up to
the mark
Consumers expect that the product available at Harrods
would belong to the highest of the qualities available.
Harrods have recently focused on the
experiencers by introducing a whole
new concept of branding for youth.
Harrods is also focusing on Chinese Consumers because
of increasing per capita income of chinese people.
Harrods welcome all type of
consumers including
believers,acheivers and fullfillers.
Harrods provide a whole shopping
experience which can be attractive to
believers.
High prices products attract the
believers.
Bars and entertainment areas attract the
Experiencers
Selfridges is more focused towards
entertainment as it has 15 bars, cafes and
restaurants inside the area.

Focuses more on Fullfillers as its
prices are a bit lower then
Harrods but the product is of
same quality.
Sophisticated environment
makes it attractive to
fullfillers.
People actually go there for
shopping as compared to
Harrods which is itself a
tourist spot.
Great architectural store
attract fullfillers who are
fond of art.
Non costly brands such as
Warehouse attract
acheivers as well.
