Birth and Spiritual Birth:
1. Born on 23 July 1905 to Samuel Enoch and Amy Thomas in Trivandrum. Sixth child of eight children. Named after Hannington a bishop martyred in East Africa. 2. At the age of 9 accepted the Lord and gave testimony with his three brothers in the revival meeting. 3 Hannington Enoch Ups and Downs: Lost his glow of the Spirit in teen age, few times repented for sinful thoughts and acts, slowly getting down and putting thirst for education first. 1923: Joined BA in Madras Christian College. Lost interest in Jesus and lost faith by studying evolution. 1927: Brethren assembly, O taste and see that the Lord is good Silas Fox Darwin is in hell. Reinstated in faith 1928: Got a job in Collectorate, resigned in a month . Decided to be good as a teacher. 1930: Completed MA and secured 1st rank, lost the faith again but continued "Christian Ministry." joined as Junior Lecturer in Presidency College. Sunday school teacher at Wesleyan Methodist Church, Egmore. 1931: Joined Vizag Medical College as Biology lecturer. He decided to be a missionary as well as a missionary teacher. Worked with SCM-(Student Christian Movement) and lived among fisherman.
5 5 Hannington Enoch Living by Faith: While living in Vizag, he imitate life of Kagawa of Japan, who lived with lepers and TB patients. Little distance from the beach lived in small tiled house to give gospel to fishermen and to the students coming to him. Canadian Baptist Church. Miss Shirin Tabitha Stephen accepted the Lord as a school girl in Cannanore: Kerala. Close to the Lord as medical student, backslidden, recommitted when her father was ill, working as a medical doctor in government service at Chicacole in Vizag district, 50 miles ( 80 Km ) from Vizag. They met in her aunts house in 1938. prayed for three years. She was transferred to Tuni. 05.01.1941 listen and obeyed the Gods will. 19.01.1941 shared their vision, married in summer of 1941. Later she resigned her job and become housewife. Not blessed with child, she want to adopt, but not. Spiritual children are numerous. 7 5 Hannington Enoch A Beginning with Students: He was challenged by a Christian professor to witness to Thinking people, continued in SCM, became President for A.P. SCM is not believing in the totality of scripture and believes regeneration is emotional, but not spiritual. This conflict expressed to Bro.Bakht Singh, Bro.N.Daniel 1949: From Vizag, transferred to Presidency college, Madras. 1950: Started Friday prayer gathering in his home, 190 Poonamallee High road, with some students and senior friends from different churches. Aims and Doctrines, financial policies were formed. 8 5 Hannington Enoch Contending with Evolution: After becoming the Professor and Head of the Department of Zoology in Presidency College, Madras, in 1952, He took every opportunity to contend the theory of Evolution out side the class room. 1956-57: Visited UK and other countries, which gave the opportunity to study Evolution in depth 1957: He deliberately didnt want to take any official position in UESI. Became President of UESI for 7 years to clear myth 1960: Retired from Presidency college. Joined the Madras Christian College as the Head of Zoology Department on request of Dr. Mc Phail principal, and retired after 3 years 1964: Joined in Creation Research Society, visited western countries contending Evolution hypothesis. Retired from MCC, wrote the book, Evolution or Creation, defended Bible. 1965: Visited European countries Why I am a Christian ? 9 5 Hannington Enoch Ministry in the Church and end days: After retirement, his desire was fulfilled to do fulltime Christian work at local assembly Jehovah Shammah, Vepery, Madras. He become an elder in 1960. 1961 built a small house Carmel in Jehovah Shammah premises with great freedom of Spirit to remain there till they called to glory. From 1964 to 1988 they continued to contribute all their resources to the UESI and Church ministry. He was also one of the Vice Presidents of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students. They both spent their last days in the care of the Prof. H. Enochs nephew Dr. A.S. Thambiah.( who received much help when he was young). Dr. Mrs. Enoch first passed away on 31 March 1988 and 3 days later the Professor H.
