Contest Details

This year the plan is to reach out to over
2000 schools and 26 cities through the
Yi local chapters




Will be the largest such contest in India
in terms of outreach and students
impacted through a single environmental
initiative

Contest Topic

Green cities are gateways to a sustainable future. As students and
future leaders in your own community, you have the power to transform
your city or town to make it a sustainable and wonderful community to
live"
Green-I Contest

Firstly state what your citys current situation is in terms of energy/power,
water, transportation, waste, food, greenery is today

Then visualize on how you want your home town / city to look in 2030 and
what efforts need to be done to make your city/town the most sustainable city
in India by 2030

Focus on how the issues pertaining to energy conservation, renewable
energy, water efficiency, transportation management, waste management,
storm water management, food, public green spaces, farming will be done by
the city in 2030 and how can it improved and be made more green

Keep in mind the difference classes and age of students and address how
the school proposes to achieve the goal for all classes and age groups

Focus on how the school will spend this grant money on achieving the goal
What is expected of the schools
Green-I Contest
Student posters/displays/models will be
assessed by a panel of distinguished judges
on the following criteria:

Originality Concept / Design
Content Implement ability
Communicability Resources employed
Innovation

Level 1 Assessment
Green-I Contest

Top 5 schools entries from Level 1 shall
present their ideas in front of the panel of
distinguished judges

Each school shall be given 15-20 minutes to
present in front of a grand jury of judges

Date: October 23, 2013

Venue: Chennai Trade Center, Chennai.

Level 2 Assessment
Green-I Contest - 2013
Award

GRANT of Rs. 7.5 lakhs towards the
implementation of the various green ideas
suggested in their own school campus


The implementation of the project by the
winning school shall be guided and monitored
by an Yi representative

Green I 2007
Winning School Sishya, Chennai

Green-I Grant given Rs. 5 lakhs

Project undertaken
Implementation of a root zone
waste water treatment system to
reduce the use of potable
municipal and tanker water

School treats 8000 liters of water
per day and this treated water is
being used for landscaping and
cricket pitch watering

Green I Contest 2008
Winning School Kola Perumal
Chetty School, Chennai

Green-I Grant given Rs. 7.5 lakhs

Project undertaken Implementation
of a roof garden, organic composting
plant and solar powered external
lighting for the school

Every student donates a plant on
his/her birthday to the schools roof
garden and will maintain it until they
pass out

Winning School Lakshmipat Singhania
Academy, Kolkata

Green-I Grant given Rs. 7.5 lakhs

Project undertaken Energy savings by
replacing over 1450 tube lights with energy
efficient T5 fixtures

The annual energy savings achieved by the
school by replacement of these energy
efficient luminaries is around 80,040 Kwh

The school has also made posters and
calculations displayed as part of the
education program on energy savings and
carbon footprint reduction

Winning School Daly College, Indore

Green-I Grant given Rs. 7.5 lakhs

Project undertaken Setting up a
Green Resource Center in school

The resource center aims to educate all
the students not just of Daly College but
also neighboring schools on various
aspects of environment including
energy conservation, renewable energy
options, water savings and harvesting,
green practices that can be adopted by
all in day to day lives etc.

Vidyalaya, New Delhi

Green-I Grant given Rs. 7.5 lakhs

Project undertaken Setting up
green curriculum in school & green
educational materials for the school
to use and to teach future students




Green I 2012
Winning School Vasant Valley, New
Delhi

Green-I Grant given Rs. 7.5 lakhs

Project undertaken Adopting their
school neighborhood and helping them
implement various green measures
there including waste management,
sewage treatment, sanitation, water
conservation & harvesting etc.
