Antoni Gauds early life
Antoni Gaud was the youngest of 5 children. All but
one of his siblings died in childhood. Gaud was a sick
child and as a result he did not play much with other
children. Instead of playing he took walks and
observed the countryside. It was during this period
that Antoni Gauds fascination of architecture and
design grew.

The building was designed by Gaud for Josep Batll,
a wealthy aristocrat, as an upmarket home. Seor
Batll lived in the lower two floors with his family
