The Channel Tunnel is a railway tunnel built underneath
the English Channel
When Was the Tunnel Built?
The tunneling began in 1988 and the tunnel opened in
1994
Where is it Located?
Under the English Channel at the Strait of Dover Between
the UK and France
What is the Purpose of the Structure?
To transport people and goods between France and the
UK
How is the Structure Innovative?
At the time it was built it was the largest undersea tunnel
project ever designed utilizing very large drills in its
construction.
What Makes it a Wonder of the
Modern World?
The tunnel provides safe and efficient access between
France and the UK
It shortens the trip to just a couple hours
Since 1994 it has carried 330 million passengers
It averages 56k daily passengers
