LOUIS SULLIVAN

(1856-1924)
LOUIS HENRY SULLIVAN
o born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 3, 1856
o decided to be an architect at the age of 11
o on 1872, he applied to the Building and Architetecture
program at MIT
o on 1874, he entered Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris
o after 6 years, he worked for Dankman Alder
o on 1882, Sullivan and Adler became partners
o left college on June 1873 and took a job with Frank
Furness
o found a position with Arch. William Le Baron Jenney
in Chicago
o Sullivan and Adler designed approximately 180
buildings
oHe died on April 14, 1924, of kidney disease and
inflammation of the cardiac muscles
o returned to Chicago in June 1875 as a draftsman
