The document summarizes and analyzes a story from a feminist and cultural perspective. It discusses how the Chinese protagonist, on her 25th birthday, is expected to serve her grandmother and guest but accidentally spills curry on the guest. As punishment, she is not allowed to eat and is verbally abused. This reflects traditional Chinese gender roles where women did household work and respected elders. A feminist analysis critiques the physical and verbal abuse suffered by the protagonist as well as the different treatment of her and her male cousin. It concludes that arranged marriage and traditional gender roles are no longer suitable in modern Chinese society as women now have greater freedom and career opportunities.
