EARLY LIFE
Born 1819 in Leipzig, Germany
At the age of five, she began musical studies with her father,
Friedrich Wieck, a well-known tutor in piano who also opened an
intrument-selling business and music lending library
Age of nine, performed for the first time in Leizig Gewandhaus
Age of 11, had her first formal debut
CLARA THE PERFORMER
Until 1838, her father acted as Claras manager and mentor
Toured Germany, France and Austria for her concerts
One of the few pianists at the time who performed from memory
Not only promoted her own compositions, but also those of
famous composures as well (Bach, Beethoven, Shubert, etc.)

Father does not approve of Robert, his piano tutor
Married in 1840 at the age of 20 with the help of the German courts
Bore 8 children but continued to perform, compose and teach piano
and support Roberts work as well
Earned most of the money in the Schumann household
Arranged many of his instrumental works for piano and performed
them in her concerts

Robert paid homage to her efforts by including many quotes from
her own works in his
Interpreted Roberts works since he was physically incapable of
performing them himself due to an self-inflicted injury to his right-
hand
Widowed at 37 due to Roberts mental illness
LATE LIFE
Resumed concert tours after Roberts death, but only composed
one song: March
In 1878, became principal piano teacher at Hoch Conservatory in
Frankfurt while continuing as a performer
Much of her compositions remailed relatively unknown until 1879
Died in Frankfurt, 1896
