INTRODUCTION
Integration of electrical devices and mechanical

structures under micro meter scale.

It is a portfolio of techniques and processes to
design and create miniature systems.
It is at its developing stage- main application are
in automobile and medical field.
Example- 1. Air bag safety system
2. Pace makers etc..

DESCRIPTION OF EXISTING SYSTEM

The heart of the system is the

microcontroller which access all data.

To convert output of sensor to electrical
form we use a transducer.
The analogue data is converted into digital
form using ADC.
The only limitation is that none of these
sensors detects the driver`s misbehaviour.

INFERENCE ON THE SURVEY

RESULTS OBTAINED
Most number of accidents take place due to

the drivers negligence.

A person dies in a crash every 11 minutes.
Misbehaviour of the driver cannot be
overruled.
Alcohol consumption before and at the time
of driving cannot be suppressed actively.

Operation of MEMS
Micro machined accelerometer is used to measure
the axis of the plane.
The axis in which the vehicle is positioned is
determined and locked by microcontroller.
If any displacement occurs the microcontroller
triggers the alarm.

If impact detected it records GPS coordinates

speed count and impact direction.

Mass is attached to springs through

substrate.
The motion is allowed in vertical direction
only , the rest is constrained.
Movable and fixed plates together forms the
capacitors.
The upper and lower capacitors are wired
parallel to each other. Acceleration is found
to be proportional to output voltage.

13

STEERING WHEEL GRIP SENSOR

14

STEERING WHEEL GRIP SENSOR

The grip sensor is used to determine the drivers
condition
The sensor is composed of poly-vinylidene

fluoride film combined with piezo-resisitive

material.
The temperature sensors are also equipped within
the steering wheel.

15

BREATH ANALYZERS

16

Used to detect alcohol content in drivers

breath.
If percentage is crossed over a safe
limit(0.15)
the ABS system is activated and the owner
will be alerted via a GSM network,
Effective in cases if public transport where
the misbehaviour of driver can be overruled.
The sensitivity is limited to drivers position.
17

ADVANTAGES OF PROPOSED SYSTEM

Provides high level safety to human life.
Suitable for Indian driving conditions.
Easy retrieval of data for the cause of

accidents through a permanent storage

system.
Low cost and less complex system for
installation and application.

PRESENT AND FUTURE APPLICATION OF MEMS

Automotive safety, braking and suspension systems
Electromechanical signal processing
Distributed control of aerodynamic and hydrodynamic

systems
Integrated fluidic systems for miniature propellant
and combustion control

CONCLUSION
By implementing this system even though we
cannot bring cent percent elimination of the
before mentioned factors, effectiveness to some
extent can be achieved. Almost all foreign
countries have adopted this system for their
public transport .By employing this system
fatigue will detected immediately and will be
notified at regular intervals. An intelligent car
should be developed for making the road a
much safer place
