Introduction

The power management system is proposed to


share load power between the PEM fuel cell and the LiIon battery. The load power is divided into three states
such as the startup state, the charging state and the high
power state.

The fuel cell air supply system controller is developed


based on the FC current decided by the power
management system. The optimum compressure power
which maximized the net power output of the FC system is
obtained as afunction of the fuel cell current.

The Power Electronic Interface (PEI) makes a


common platform for the both power sources in order to
response the propulsion power demand.
PEI is consisted of:
UBC (unidirectional boost converter)
BDC (bidirectional converter)

The PEMFC air supply system controller is developed to


achieve maximum net power out put from the fuel cell
system.

During the start of the system, the battery powers the
load to ensure the FC cold starts easily.
When the load steps up or down, as the FC can not
respond quickly, the battery will provide or absorb
the unbalanced energy, so the dynamic characteristics
of the whole system can be improved
The battery can provide peak power, so the power
rating of the FC can be decreased, reducing the total
cost.
