This study is a requirement for our Human


Resource Management course (EH 702).
Our objective is to understand the implication of
human resource management practices in real
terms.
Thats why we have selected Beximco
Pharmaceuticals Ltd. for our study and tried to
analysis its human resource management
practices based on our theoretical knowledge.

Objectives of the study

Managing people in an organization is human resource


management.
According to Decenzo and Robbins:-"Human resource
management is a process consisting of four
functions-acquisition, development, motivation and
maintenance of human resources.
According to Gary Dessler:-"Human resource
management refers to the policies and practices one
needs to carry out the people or human resource
aspects of management position including recruiting,
screening, training, rewarding and appraising.

Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Beximco Pharma) is a


leading manufacturer of medicines which was
incorporated in the late 70s.
Beximco Pharma began as a distributor, importing
products from global MNCs like Bayer, Germany and
Upjohn, USA and selling them in the local market, which
were later manufactured and distributed under licensing
arrangement.

Over the years the company has grown from strength to


strength and today it has become a leading exporter of
medicines in the country winning National Export (Gold)
Trophy a record four times.

Beximco Pharma currently has a dedicated


workforce of around 3,000 people.
They emphasize their employees as valuable
asset. They mention in their core values as
People focus .
They say, We give high priority on building
capabilities of our employees and empower
them to realize their full potential.

We know HRM has some core functions for


example staffing, training and development,
motivating and maintenance.
Here we have described the HR process of

1. Planning Process
BEXIMCO PHARMA HR Department constantly
assesses their need of personnel in each level.
They have expert HR personnel to forecast demand
supply state of the organization. They have
computerized database system for each current
personnel.

This help to arrange training and development


program also in case of promotion. We know that
theoretically this system is known as HRIS System.

2. Recruiting Process
BEXIMCO PHARMA follows a wide array of
sources for recruiting. Their target is to
accumulate a significant pool of candidates
and as a result to achieve appropriate
applicants for the required positions. They use
both internal and external source to obtain
the perfect candidate.

Internal Source: There could be a person


competent for the required job working within
the organization.

External Source: To avoid biasness among


employees, organizations use searching
candidate externally. It incurs cost but has
possibility to get new blood.

3. Selection process
BEXIMCO PHARMA follows an extensive selection
procedure to obtain successful candidates. Steps are
discussed and demonstrated by a flow here.

4. Socialization and Orientation


Socialization and Orientation usually refer to the
process of helping new employees adapt to their
new organizations and work responsibilities.
BEXIMCO PHARMA highly emphasizes these phases
in their HR practice.
They arrange a short orientation program for new
employees at the beginning of their joining date.
Board members orient themselves to new employees
on that day. They briefly explained about the
company inception, hurdle, and achievement.

After this short session each Department In Charge

introduce new employees to their own department,


specific work place and rules- regulations, specific job
responsibility etc. Employees search in detail
information about the work procedure, career path,
pay procedure, compensation and benefits, work
environment etc from their supervisor or existing coworkers on that day.

5. Training
Beximco conducts extensive training programs
for its employees both in country and abroad
to enrich their knowledge and expertise.

6. Performance Appraisal
They appraise employee
contribution even in
month basis. They select

Formal appraisal system
also conducts half yearly
and yearly basis.

Findings
From our analysis we have found that Beximco
Pharma follow HRM process properly. They
follow strict recruiting process with several
steps to avoid bias and generate new blood in
the company.
It is proven that they ensure the right person
at the right place. Their recruiting agency
always searches qualified people within the
industry.

Beximco Pharma also offer lottery per month


to inspire employees within the work
environment. They also provide benefits such
as provident fund, medical, transportation etc.
They consider employee emergency so they
provide flexible work time.

Recommendations
They can target themselves as a top model to
exercise HR process more accurately. Because
HR relates with dynamic components, so an
organization also needs to update them with
the pace of time. So Beximco can be a role
model for others company.
