Clarification
A process which is generally used to remove solid
particulates or suspended solids from juice is
called clarification.
Before the juice enters into clarifier,

reagent like polyelectrolyte (chemfloc57) is added.

Amount of chemical is 2.5 to 4 ppm.

Objective of Clarification
The primary objective of the clarification is to
remove the maximum quantity of impurities from
the juice as early as possible.
This is to gain the quality sugar from raw juice.
For this purpose different chemicals are added
into the juice so to remove all solid particles.

SRI Clarifier
The SRI clarifier is a single tray clarifier.
It is characterized by short juice retention times.
Clarifier is generally divided into several
compartment so as to increase area of settling.
Launders are present consist of different cuts and
juice passes through these cuts.

Working of SRI clarifier

It is provided with a central shaft which carries
scrappers of sheet metal.
Scrappers brush the bottom of each compartment.
Juice enters into flocculation chamber.
Hot water and chemfloc57 mix in a stirred tank.
Polyelectrolyte combines all the solid particles.

Working of SRI clarifier

These all suspended particles are called mud.
This moves towards bottom of clarifier by gravity.
Mud is removed from bottom of clarifier and send
to BD mixer for further process.
PH of clarified juice is decrease about half a unit.
5 to7 oC temperature fall in clarification process.

Working of SRI clarifier

The clarified juice is drawn off from each
compartment by connected pipes.
These pipes terminate in Juice Box in which
juice comes from each compartment.
This Juice passes through the 80 mesh screen.
After screen juice enters into clear juice tank.
