Introduction

The term wearable device refers to electronic technologies or

computers that are incorporated into items of clothing and accessories
which can comfortably be worn on the body.

The idea is that technology will increasingly become more part of our
day-to-day life lives, and it will become less intrusive, as it will be part of
our clothing, and sometimes even part of our bodies

As of now, wearable devices are already available in the fields of

Health
Medical devices
Sensors
Wearable for pets
Monitoring Fitness
Smart Fabrics

Impact on Human Lives

Positive

Negative

Monitoring Health

Using users medical records to harm him/her (Bioterrorism)

Ease in accessing information.

Information may not be secured, may be visible to others.

Provides flexibility in day-to day task

Can lead to unhealthy habits, increase in diseases.

With added advantage of social media, any person

can be reached easily.

Lack of physical presence for the meeting will lead to

decreased social interaction.

Can be used for physical rehabilitation, prosthetics

etc

Exoskeleton are developed for military use, which can do

more harm than good (user perspective)

To summarize, use of tools and technologies over time,

changes the nature of human mental processes
Tools are not just added to human activity; they transform it

PLACEMENT: Should be unobtrusive.

SHAPE: Should be compatible with the placement area.
MOVEMENT: Should not hamper human movement.
PROXEMICS: human perception of space, the device should be within the users intimate space.
SIZING: considers the build of a body and the ways in which it will change.
ATTACHMENT: fixing forms to the body should be stable, solid, and comfortable attachment
CONTAINMENT: whats inside of the shape.
WEIGHT: should not imbalance the human body.
ACCESSIBILITY: consider the type of accessibility necessary to render the product most usable.
SENSORY INTERACTION: passive or active, interaction should be kept simple and intuitive.
THERMAL: heat next to the body.
AESTHETIC: form and function of the device should be acceptible by others.
LONG-TERM USE: effects on the body and mind.
MATERIAL: biocompatibility is one of the major issue .
COST EFFECTIVE.

Tactile devices
Tactile means to recreate the sense of touch by applying forces, vibrations, or motions to the user
Majority of the tactile devices that exist are of 2 types:
1.) Braille system for the blind
2.) Haptic devices that add reality to virtual world.

Conclusion
The field of wearable technology is broad, and the list of applications is limited only by
developers imaginations and undeveloped markets. Much wearable technology as it
exists today resides in the form of sports, activity trackers related medical devices.
Haptic Technology can be used almost every thing we do. The goal behind developing
such technology is to make technology as human as possible, which means to increase
the human power of sensing the environment.
As new technology is invented , old technology will cease to exist, simply put once
wearable's of more functionality are developed, smartphones may no longer exist, or
LED displays will be replaced as holographic displays are developed.
Design focuses on the physical shape of wearables and their active relationship with the
human form, and therefore are based on the study of history, cultures, clothing, costume,
protective wearables, and a variety of carrying devices
To conclude, no matter where the market of the wearable technology ends up, but the
wearable's have started to revolutionize the technology market.
