INTRODUCTION

Human brain ,the most valuable creation of God.

Man is called intelligent because of the brain.
Loss the knowledge after the death of man.
BLUE BRAIN is the name of worlds first
virtual brain .That means a machine that can
function as human brain.

Henry Markram

Director of Blue
Brain Project.

Founder and CoDirector of EPFLs

institute.
Project was
founded in May
2005.

BLUE BRAIN
The name of the world's first virtual
brain.
A machine that can function as
human brain.
An artificial brain that can think,
response, take decision, and keep
anything in memory.

Main aim is to upload human brain

into machine.
So that man can think, take decision
without any effort.
After the death of the body, the
virtual brain will act as the man .
we will not loose the knowledge,
intelligence, personalities, feelings
and memories of man.
can be used for the development of
the human society.

VIRTUAL BRAIN
An artificial brain, not actually a natural
brain.
Act as natural brain.
It can think like natural brain.
It can take decisions .
It can response .

It also has feelings and emotions.

It can keep things in memory.

Need of VIRTUAL BRAIN

Intelligence, knowledge and skills of
a person can be made eternal.
Things can be made easy as
everything is automated.
To upload the contents of natural
brain into it.

BRAIN SIMULATION
NATURAL BRAIN
INPUT
Through the natural
neurons.
INTERPRETATION
By different states of
neurons in the brain.

BLUE BRAIN
INPUT
Through the artificial
neurons or silicon
chip.
INTERPRETATION
By a set of bits in the
set registers

OUTPUT
Through the natural
neurons.
MEMORY
Through permanent
states of neurons.

OUTPUT
Through the artificial
neuron or chip.
MEMORY
Through secondary
storage.

FUNCTIONING OF NATURAL BRAIN

The brain essentially serves as the
bodys information processing centre.
It receives signals from sensory
neurons (nerve cell bodies and their
axons and dendrites)in the central
and peripheral nervous systems .
In response it generates and sends
new signals that instruct the
corresponding parts of the body to
move or react in someway.

The brain weighs about 1,500grams

(3 pounds) and constitutes about 2
percent of total body weight.

Cerebrum: Holds our memories, and controls how we respond to

different sensory signals from the world around us.
Cerebellum: Coordinates all of your movement and muscles to
help you walk and remain balanced.
Frontal Lobe: Controls our ability to use words and speech as well
as how we react to situations emotionally.
Parietal Lobe: Controls our sense of touch as well as how we use
our hands to complete tasks.
Occipital Lobe: This is when our sense of vision is controlled from.
Temporal Lobe: This is where our sense of hearing is centred as
well as our ability to organize things.
Pons: Controls our breathing and heartbeat.
Brain Stem: Sends all of the decisions that the brain makes to the
rest of the body.

CURRENT RESEARCH WORK

IBM is developing the BLUE BRAIN.
IBM, in partnership with EPFL(Ecole
polytechnique Federales De
Lausanne's) Brain and Mind Institute
will begin simulating the brains
biological system.

FUNTIONING OF BLUE BRAIN

Possible by the use of small robots
known as nanobots.
These robots will be small enough to
travel throughout our circulatory
system.
Travelling into the spine and brain,
they will be able to monitor the
activity and structure of our central
nervous system.

They will be able to provide an

interface with computers that is as
close as our mind can be while we still
reside in our biological form.
Nanobots scan the structure of our
brain, providing a complete readout of
the connections between each neuron.
They will be able to provide an
interface with computer. Thus data
stored in brain will be uploaded to
computer

PHOTOS OF NANOBOTS

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

REQUIREMENTS
Processor with a very high processing
power.
8,096 CPUs at 700 MHz
The Blue Brain has some 8000 processors
which map one or more neurons to each
processor, making a computer a replica of
10,000 neurons.
Very powerful nanobots to act as interface.

Linux and c++ software.

100 kilowatts power con.
A wide area network.
Program to convert electrical impulse
s from brain into input signals.
Large memory with high storage
capacity(256 MB to 512 MB memory
per processor).

Very powerful Nanobots to act as the

interface between the natural brain
and computer.
A Super computer(Blue Gene).

ARCHITECHTURE OF BLUE GENE

Blue Gene/L is built using systemon-a-chip technology in which all

functions of a node (except for main
memory) are integrated onto a single
application- specic integrated circuit
(ASIC).
This ASIC includes 2 PowerPC 440
cores running at 700MHz. Associated
with each core is a 64-bit double
oating point unit (FPU) that can
operate in single instruction, multiple
data (SIMD) mode.

Each (single) FPU can execute up to

2 multiply-adds per cycle, which
means that the peak performance
of the chip is 8 oating point
operations per cycle (4 under normal
conditions, with no use of SIMD
mode). This leads to a peak
performance of 5.6 billion oating
point operations per second per chip
or node

EXAMPLES OF UTILIZATION OF
BLUE BRAIN

In case of Short Term Memory loss.

In some movies we might have seen
a person with having short term
memory loss.

Another situation is that when a

person gets older, then he starts
forgetting to takes a bit more time to
recognize a person.
Great inventory brains can be reused
for further inventions(like Newton
and Einstein).

Diseases like Alzheimer, Parkinson's

can be treated.
For these reasons we need a blue
brain.
It is a simple chip that can be
installed into the human brain for
which the short term memory loss
and a volatile memory at old age can
be avoided.

APPLICATIONS
Gathering and testing 100 years of
data.
Cracking the neural code.
A novel tool for drug discovery for
Brain Disorders.
A foundation for Whole Brain
Simulations

ADVANTAGES
Remembering things without any effort.
Making decisions without the presence
of a person.
Using the intelligence of another person
after death.
Understanding the activities of animals.
Allowing the deaf to hear via direct
nerve simulation.

DISADVANTAGES
We become dependent on
computers.
Others may use technical knowledge
against us.
Another fear is found with respect to
human cloning.
A very costly procedure of regaining
the memory back.

Some Brain Tips

The human brain is said to be the most
advanced and capable machine.
After all, its human who created the
super computers.
Your brain needs a bit of oiling if you
want to keep it healthy and deliver a
better performance.
Here are 5 tips to increase brain
power..

Solve puzzles and play games.

Consume Almonds and other brain
food.
Meditate.
Imagine.
Follow a Sleep and Wake up routine.

CONCLUSIONS

We will be able to transfer ourselves

to computers at some point.
It will bring both benefits and harm
to human society.
Eventually the aim of applying terrific
computer power to the simulation of
an entire brain.
Very soon this technology will be
highly accepted by world.
