Your Personal Statement

Section 3- HOW
HOW do your academics relate to
your chosen course?

Section 3- HOW
What do you want to tell them here?

Tell them about your academic life in A-Level

courses
Include good scores for IELTS, etc.
Success you have achieved in school
The courses you have taken, or will take, and
how they relate to what you want to study in
the future
Build a Bridge

Section 3- HOW
WHAT questions

WHAT did you study?

WHAT did you enjoy about it?
WHAT did you learn from it that you can apply
to your future studies?
REMEMBER: Be specific!

Section 3- HOW
A question: What if what I want to study isnt one
of my A level courses?
An answer: Talk about what skills you learned
from the course or the work you do in the
course, and how those skills will help you.

Ex: Studying Maths has helped me develop a logical

way of thinking, whilst Chemistry has given me a solid
foundation on which to build my physiological
knowledge for medical school.

Section 3- HOW
Building a Bridge

Show how the skills you learned in your A

level studies will help you in the future
Ex: Physics provides the theoretical
knowledge such as how radio waves
propagate in the air, and Maths offers the
logical thinking and methods of problem
solving.

Section 3- HOW
Use your U-Link advantage!

You already study a large part of your curriculum in

English!
Emphasize the challenge you accepted coming here
Ex: Choosing Accounting in A level is a challenge
because it requires a lot of English reading.
Through working as a teachers assistant, I gained
more confidence, and giving up my senior 3rd year
and choosing A level is proof of my confidence.

Section 3- HOW
More of your U-Link advantage: the
environment around your school

Ex: In my college there are students from

different countries learning Chinese. I have
made many strangers into friends.
I have teachers from many different Englishspeaking countries. They help open a window
for me to their world.

Section 3- HOW
What to include:
MOST IMPORTANT: HOW does your course
work relate to your future study
Your academic record: your successes, and the
skills youve gained
Your English- based experience
If youve gotten a good test score, let them
know

If youre planning to take a test soon, let them know

that, too, and that youre confident youll do well!
