Maintenance
recommendation
1. Control valve:
It should be dismantled, inspected and cleaned
on monthly basis.
The valve and piston along with seats should
be clean with bristol brush and paraffin oil.
(emery cloth and steel wool not to be used).
Care should be taken not to damage the the
seats and joints to remove valve and piston
from the control valve housing.
The o ring should be inspected. If found
damaged, renew.

If the valve seat is badly pitted, should

be sent for re-conditioning to the
manufacturer or if possible should be reseated by using fine lapping paste.

2. Magnetic valve
It should be inspected and cleaned on monthly
basis.
Cleaning medium should be paraffin oil and
bristol brush.
If the piston is scoured, it should be honed
using fine oil stone.
Holes around and in the top of piston should be
cleaned.
The o ring should be inspected, if required
renewed.

GENERAL NOTES ON THE

OPERATION OF TURBO JET
BURNER.
Before starting.1. make sure that all oil valves from the pump discharge and any
valves placed in the oil return line from the burner are open.
2. ensure that oil is circulating at correct temp around the system.
3. check that the boiler press. is below. that at which the switches are
set to cut out the burner.
4. if a "lock out" position is shown, i.e. the red light on the burner
control panel is illuminated, the reset button must first be pushed
before the burner can be restarted.
5. if the burner control panel has an operating switch fitted, check that
this is in the"on" position.

NOTES ON CARE AND

MAINTENANCE
1. lightly oil the moving parts on air/ oil ratio linkage at regular intervals.
2. keep electrode points on HE ignitor clean and the high tension free
from moisture and dirt.
3. keep spare sprayers, atomizers and valves clean and ready for use.
4. the primary air swirler assembly should be withdrawn from the
housing at weekly intervals to be examined for carbon deposits and
if necessary cleaned. if, however, the weekly inspection fails to show
an appreciable amount of carbon formation this inspection period
may be deferred for a ;longer interval. at the same time, the sprayer
atomizer should be removed for inspection and careful cleaning.
5. regular servicing should be carried out.
6. drain linesf rom burner should be removed at intervals, blown
through and cleaned to ensure no leakage occurs.
7. routine inspection should be made of arcing of contacts which will be
apparent if the contacts are oxidized. contacts of all relays and
starters should be kept free from dust, etc.

ANALYSIS OF
MECHANICAL FAULTS
Faults:
Bad combustion

Possible causes:
1. atomizer requires
cleaning.
2. air fuel ratio incorrectly
adjusted.

Flame striking back-

Incorrect axial adjustment

of sprayer housing
tube- i.e. air gap
between swirler radiation
shield and sprayer cap
nut too small

Excessive amounts of oil

leaking from drain-

Oil weeping between control

valve and/or burner manifold
and coupling block-

1. sprayer cap nut not tightened

up.
2. incorrect axial adjustment of
sprayer housing tube- i.e air gap
too large and oil spray striking
housing tube and dripping down.
1. cap nut not tightened up.
2. sprayer
manifold not tightened up.
3. oil joints not seating correctly
on control valve or burner
coupling block and manifold
block. joints require renewal.
4. incorrect axial adjustment of
spray housing tube causing oil
to weep between cap nut and
sprayer housing tube, and giving
the appearence of the leak
between burner control valve
and/or manifold and coupling
block.
