IB Diploma Program
IB Diploma requirements
• Students must complete 6 courses, write a
TOK essay (max 1500 words) and an Extended
Essay (max 4000 words).
• Students must complete a course from each of
the first five groups. The sixth course can be
chosen from groups 6, 2,3, 4.
• Each course is graded on 1-7 scale. The TOK
essay and Extended Essay receive a total of 3
points.
• Students must complete 150 hours of CAS.
• Maximum IB diploma points are 45.
Conditions of Failing the IB-diploma
1 Candidate’s total points are less than 24.
2 A grade N has been awarded for one or more subjects, theory of knowledge or the extended essay.
3 A grade E has been awarded for both theory of knowledge and the extended essay.
4 There is a grade 1 awarded in any subject and level.
5 CAS requirements have not been completed.
6 Candidate is guilty of malpractice.
7 Grade 3 has been awarded four or more times.

These codes apply to diploma (and retake) candidates with 24 to 27 points inclusive.
8 There is one or more grade 2 awarded at higher level.
9 Grade 2 at standard level awarded two or more times.
10 Candidate has registered for three higher level subjects, and gained fewer than 12 points on these.
11 Candidate has registered for three standard level subjects, and gained fewer than 9 points on these.
12 Candidate has registered for four higher level subjects, and gained fewer than 16 points on these.
13 Candidate has registered for two standard level subjects, and gained fewer than 6 points on these.

These codes apply to diploma (and retake) candidates with 28 points or more.
14 Grade 2 at higher level awarded two or more times.
15 Grade 2 at standard level has been awarded three times.
16 Candidate has registered for three higher level subjects, and gained fewer than 11 points on these.
17 Candidate has registered for three standard level subjects, and gained fewer than 8 points on these.
18 Candidate has registered for four higher level subjects, and gained fewer than 14 points on these.
19 Candidate has registered for two standard level subjects, and gained fewer than 5 points on these.
IB Diploma Procedures
• It is a two year program which prepares students
to take the exams at the end of the second year.
• Each course has an internal assessment
component and an external assessment (exam)
• Internal Assessment grades, TOK essay and
Extended essay are moderated by IBO
examiners
• Exams are assessed entirely by IBO examiners

IB course offerings at ACS
• The six subjects of the IB Hexagon
• The IB Diploma curriculum consists of six subject groups.
• At ACS Athens we offer the following:
• Language A1: Native language: English or Greek
• Language A2: Nearly Native Language: English or Greek
• Language B, Ab Initio: Second modern language (non-
native speakers): French, Spanish, Arabic
• Individuals and Societies: History, Economics, Psychology,
• Experimental Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Physics
• Mathematics: Mathematics HL, Mathematics SL, Mathematical
Studies SL
• Electives: Visual Arts, Theater Arts, Music, a third modern
language, or a second subject from either Individuals and Societies
or Experimental Sciences
Alternative Program Options
An ACS diploma enhanced with IB and AP
courses.
In addition to the IB courses that are available to all
students ( provided they meet the prerequisites) we offer
the following AP courses:
