Study design:
Qualitative (semi structured interviews). In the present study survey
research design was used.
The research was completed in two phases.
Section I: Identification of work place stressors and coping
strategies:
- The first phase consisted of semi structured interviews with the
reporters.
I was the interviewer who asked questions and took down notes and
recorded it.
10 Reporters were interviewed. A list was formed of all the work
place stressors and coping strategies of female reporters.
Section II: Prevalence of work place stressors and coping strategies:
The most prevalent of stressors are listed down along with the
coping strategies.

Study settings
Reporters were taken from different News Channels in Lahore. The

semi structured interviews took place at the news channel offices, in


discussion rooms which were available. Also a few took place in
restaurants.

Sampling Technique
The sampling techniques were used in order to find 10
female news reporters was purposive sampling and
snowball sampling.

In the present study participants include
10 female reporters from news channels of Lahore.
The age range of reporters was 20 - 40 years of age.
1 Inclusion criteria: women reporters who present
news stories on television.
2 Exclusion criteria: women reporters who do not
present news stories on television.

Measures
Following tools were used in this research study.
Demographic Information Sheet
Semi structured-Questionnaire
Operational Definition of Variables
Stress: Stress in this study will be drawn out by
the participants of the focus groups and then
listed down.
Coping Strategies: The coping strategies were
elicited by the participants of the focus groups.
Data collection: An audio of the interviews was
recorded along with paper notes of any
important issue raised.

Procedure
A reporter was contacted first through social media website. An initial
unstructured interview took place to form semi-structured questionnaire.
Further female reporters were contacted through that one reporter. A few
were also contacted through emails. Informed consent was taken from
reporters. A meeting was arranged with all the 10 reporters separately. The
interviews focused on occupational stress and nature of stressors
experienced by these reporters. It also focused on the coping strategies
employed by these reporters to reduce stress. The questions that were asked
are given in the appendix. They were informed about the result as they wish
to know, as following those APA ethical standards. Each interview was of
minimum 90 minutes and maximum were of two hours, tea breaks were
taken in between and it was recorded for ease of the research study.
The semi structured interviews conducted was used to generate list of
occupational stress/stressors and respective coping strategies.
Qualitative Analysis
The interviews were transcribed by the researcher using the thematic analysis.
Thematic analysis is a way of seeing, as well as a process for coding
qualitative information. The researcher made decisions about the process of
identifying themes. The researcher decided how to code the data to enable
categorization themes to emerge. Each interview was analyzed separately
and then themes were combined to form categorization.
