INTRODUCTION
Voice Over Internet Protocol(VOIP) is
technology that enables one to make and
receive phone calls through Internet instead
of using traditional analogy PSTN (Public
Switched Telephone Network)lines.

WHAT IS VOIP?

The Voice Over Internet protocol enables you


to use your IP network to make phone calls.

However, it is not just use for a phone calls it


is use for general voice communication over
the internet.

VOIP also known as IP telephony, voice over


broadband, internet telephony.

HOW DOES VOIP WORKS?

HOW DOES VOIP WORKS ?

VOIP works differently to ordinary telephone


communications.

This is because a traditional way of making


telephone call utilizes something called circuit
switching.

Instead of circuit switching VOIP converts your voice


into little packets of data and then they travel on
route of several routers, to reach their destination.

Compression - Voice is compressed typically with


the one of the following codec G7.11 64K,G7.29AB

Encapsulation - the digitized voice is wrapped in an


IP packets.

Routing - The voice packet is routed through the


network to its final destination.

WHO USES VOIP ?

VOIP is beginning to be used in lot of business. This


is because it is considered cheap.

Microsoft is using VOIP for their Xbox live service.


Enabling customers to be able to talk through a
headset to each other. However, they do charge a
small fee for service.

Skype also use VOIP for video calls and messaging.


Skype is used by 20% of American businesses.

CORPORATE USE OF VOIP

Several businesses are now switching from copper


wired telephone to VOIP.

This is to reduce monthly phone cost.
