Manga = “whimsical picture”

There is a worldwide community of anime- and
mangafans. Many young people want to learn
Japanese language and Japanese martial arts
because of manga and anime.

Some fans start drawing


 in the same style, hoping
 to become a real mangaka.

When combined with


 Photoshop, those sketches can be turned into
art that looks just alike.
Culture
 Many young people from Western cultures have
been inspired to learn Japanese culture. For many
of them learning about Japan and understanding
anime are closely linked.
 This includes adapting to it, and to the characters
themselves.
Japan adopted “kawaii”ness
 since the 1970’s.
Views on this differ. Childish,
 dumb, or really cute?
Cuteness increasingly being
accepted as a part of Japanese
culture and national identity.
