Story: Charlottes Web


Year : 4
Level : Advanced

Story Review
Charlotte's Web is about a girl named Fern, a pig named
Wilbur and a spider called Charlotte. They live on a farm
and Fern is horrified when she finds out that Wilbur as a
piglet is to be slaughtered. She rescues Wilbur only then
to have him sent away from her to her uncle's farm where
he is friendless and snubbed by the other animals except
Charlotte, a spider, and this is where Wilbur's adventures
begin.

Justification:
AGE
It is appropriate for Year 4 students as the story is
straightforward and direct. No hidden meaning.
The vocabulary used is suitable for this age as it
is simple yet introduce them with new vocabulary.
E.g ; rescue, runt and etc.
INTEREST
The story tells about animal which trigger the pupils
interest.
students learn how to use their imagination, look at
situations from different points of view, expand their
curiosity, and understand reality through surreal
circumstances.

LEVEL OF PROFICIENCY
It is appropriate for these advanced students as the
story enriches the students with new vocabulary,
structures of sentences and so on.
The story is quite lengthy which challenge this type
of students yet understandable.
MORAL VALUES
This story express several moral values such as be
kind to each other and appreciate people around us.

Story Review
This story is about a guy named
Nasreddin Hodja who was wondering
why Allah created a little walnut hanging
on a huge tree instead of pumpkin.

It It is appropriate for these advanced students as
the story enriches the students with new
vocabulary. Example: swap and spindly vines
This story is short but it has hidden meaning which
is appropriate for the advanced learner.

MORAL VALUES
This story tells us not to question the wisdom of
Allah. Everything that Allah created in that way has its
own reason.

Story: The Ant and The


Grasshopper
Year : 3
Level : Intermediate

Story Review
In a field one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping
about, chirping and singing in the sun. But the ant was
hardworking. He was collecting food grains and storing
them in his house. The grasshopper did not understand
why the ant was doing so. The ant explained that he has
to store foods for winter and recommend him to do so.
The grasshopper asked the ant to play together but the
ant refused and went on his way.
When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and
found itself dying of hunger while he saw the ants
distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they
had collected in the summer.
Then the Grasshopper knew: It is best to prepare for days
of need.

Justification:
CONTENT
The vocabulary used in the story is simple and
understandable. (field,singing, hardworking)
The story is easy to comprehend by children as it
is straightforward and no hidden meaning.
Encourage children to notice the form.
INTEREST
The story tells about animal; as children love
animal so much.
They can relate the animal in the story with their
lives where they can found ants are usually busy
looking for foods.

AGE

This story can be related to the pupils lives (where they


can find ants and grasshopper in the garden or even in
the playground) and fantasy as pupils at this age (7-9
years old) have their own imagination.
Increase the childrens creativity and fantasy in
imagining how animal can talk like human being.

MORAL VALUES
This story teach the children it is best to prepare for
the days of need and not to stick in their comfort zone
until they feel regret once confronting the hard
situation.
