PPP
A contract between public sector
authority and a private party
 PPP is an emerging trend in developing
countries, esp. in India, Brazil, China,
etc
 Problems of poor infrastructure, proper
planning and funding have plagued
respective governments.
 Private firms have offered their expertise
or funds in solving all prevalent
problems
PPP - The Indian
Perspective
 Indian economy has seen rampant
growth since early 90’s.
 Demands have shot skywards, but
infrastructure still lags behind
 Indian government thus took steps to
initiate private participation in growth of
the economy.
 Many projects have come up under PPP
in India,, in sectors like highways,
railways, ports, telecom, power etc
PPP projects in India
 HIGHWAYS-
 Reliance Energy:
Three contracts to four-lane 400 kilometers of
highway and four-lane conversion of five
national highway projects in Tamil Nadu that
covers 400 kilometers and at an estimated cost
of more than US$ 762.42 million.

Jaiprakash Associates Ltd:
Implementing the 165 kilometers long Taj
Expressway project, which connects Greater
Noida to Agra at a cost of US$ 554.93 million

 Ports-
 ABG Shipyard has decided to set up a greenfield
shipyard in south Gujarat with an investment of
USD 255.58 million.

Larsen and Toubro Ltd has chosen Kattupalli
port in Thiruvallur district, near Chennai, as the
location to build the over USD 425.97 million
mega- shipbuilding yard

 Health care-
 The Gujarat Govt has tied up with Adani Group for
Rs 100-crore G K General Hospital at Bhuj. The
hospital was built using the funds from Prime
Minister's Relief Fund after the 2001earthquake
 Tripura Medical College set up by GENET in
collaboration with the Tripura Govt. here in 2004,
is the first public private partnership (PPP) model
in the healthcare education in India,"
