CHANGE
The

managers,
significant
others and employees should
accept this principle to foster
the healthy behavior

They

must concentrate on
changing their own behavior if
they wish the others related to
them.

CHANGE
Their

parent ego structure

should be changed to adult
ego structure.

They

should transform their

desctructive or unacceptable
languages to healthy or
acceptable ones.

PARENT EGO STATE

The

parent ego state is

usually divided into two parts,
Critical parent and
Nurturing Parent.

1/11/2014

LEA A.JUMARANG_HBO_2013

PARENT EGO STATE

Critical

Parent perceived
as authoritarian critical and
inconsiderate of the feelings
of others. Many managers
can and do behave in this
way, as do many actual
parents
with
their
own
children.

LEA A.JUMARANG_HBO_2013

PARENT EGO STATE

Nurturing

Parent is softer and

more considerate and is concerned
about the welfare of others. Again,
some individuals in position of
responsibility operate in this way.
However,
the
negative
connotations of this nurturing
mode of behavior can be too
stifling,
claustrophobic
and
ultimately debilitating

LEA A.JUMARANG_HBO_2013

PARENT EGO STATE

Critical

Parent may say:

These
sales
figures
are
absolutely
atrocious,
this
company isnt paying you to sit
on your backsides and do
nothing. I want it sorted now.
I told you not to disturb me while
Im working in this project. Now
get out and leave me alone.

LEA A.JUMARANG_HBO_2013

PARENT EGO STATE

Nurturing

Parent

may

say:

Do you think your up with this

business trip? You know you
always suffer from jetlag.

Dont work too hard, youll wear

yourself out

ADULT EGO STATE

The

adult ego state

optimizes
logical
and
rational
thinking.
However, the downside is
that it can sometimes
appear quite clinical and
cold.
1/11/2014

LEA A.JUMARANG_HBO_2013

ADULT EGO STATE

Some

in adult state mode

might say:

- These figures are down on

last month. We need to look
at this why this is and make a
plan of action to rectify it.

Why
do
individuals
or
employees misbehave in the
workplace?

1/11/2014

LEA A.JUMARANG_HBO_2013

Individuals

or employees
misbehave because they
do not believe they can
belong in useful ways.
They
have
been
discouraged as a result of
unhealthy languages or
transactions used by the
significant
persons
particularly their managers
