Pre-reading
Aim:
To stimulate interest.
To introduce language or concepts.
To help pupils see the relationship of ideas in a
difficult text by providing a framework.
Content:
The teacher introduces the vocabulary
The pupils read the words /phrase.
The teacher explains the meaning of the
words/phrase.
*The pupils understand the meaning of the
words/phrase in the text before reading it.

While-reading
Aim:
To understand the writers
purpose.
To understand the text structure
(answer questions, as stimulus
for discussion, solving a problem,
etc.)
To enable pupils to achieve the
lesson aims by handling the text
in different ways.

Content:
The teacher shows a picture of a house. (This is
your house and we will learn some home safety
tips).
The pupils read the text.
The teacher read the text and the pupils repeat
it.
The teacher explains the text.
The teacher distributes the task sheets to the
pupils.
The pupils complete the task.
The teacher and the pupils discuss the answers.
* The pupils learn home safety tips.

Post-reading
Aim:
To relate the text to the learners own
knowledge, interests or views.
To consolidate or reflect upon what has
been read.
To make pupils look closely into the text,
the purpose of post-reading activities
would be to look out of the text to see
its relevance to other activities the
pupils may find interesting or useful.

Content:
The teacher distributes the task sheets
to the pupils.
The pupils write the answers.
The teacher walks around to provide
guidance.
The teacher and the pupils discuss the
answers.
* The pupils demonstrates understanding
of the text by predicting with guidance.
