 PRIVATE VEHICLES CONTRIBUTE TO 65% OF TRAVEL NEEDS (7.8
LAKH TRIPS)
 TRAVEL DEMAND PROJECTED TO GROW TO 16 & 28 LAKH TRIPS PER
DAY BY 2011 AND 2021
 IN FUTURE ROAD CAPACITY WILL BE A CONSTRAINT
 TRANSPORT NETWORK WILL NOT ONLY REQUIRE EXPANSION BUT
WIDENING / STRENGTHENING, AS WELL ..
 ARREST THIS TREND AND PROMOTE PUBLIC TRANSPORT - TARGET
ABOUT 50% MODAL SPLIT BY 2011 (present share below 20%)

Wheeler and Cycle passengers will shift to BRT
 Highest shift of passengers is likely to be 50%
from auto rickshaw commuters – current fares
are higher than city bus
 The Growth of the nation is dependant on its
transport system
 BRTS provides
 Savings in fuel consumption in terms of foreign
currency
 Safety to users
 Faster commutation
 Attraction of foreign tourists

BRTS can be implemented under BOT system, which


reduces initial investment by government

Hence there is an urgent need to improve the transport


system and the only answer is BRTS
