IMPORTANCE OF TECHNOLOGY
AND ITS UPGRADATION
vScience and technology in a major way has
been recognized since independence.
v
vDuring that period it was not much
developed but now it has achieved
significant growth.
v
vTechnological efforts have to underpin the
growth of industry, services etc so that
economy becomes globally competitive.

OBJECTIVES OF TECHNOLOGY
UPGRADATION
vAttaining technological competence and
self reliance.
vIdentifying obsolescence of technology in
use and arrange for modernization of
both equipment and technology.

IMPLICATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY
FOR SMEs
v SMEs will continue to be SMEs, but no
longer to afford to behave as SMEs.
v
vCompetition will come from unknown
direction and countries.
v
vWorld will be your market place.
GOVERNMENT POLICY WITH
REGARD TO TECHNOLOGY FOR
INDUSTRY
The domestic R&D system and the
industrial
enterprises are the two main players in the
technology-industry interface . Now R&D
has
become market driven . So Indian
Government has
also started many schemes and has given
financial
help in its 11th five year plan.
Recommendations on financial outlays for
S&T for SMEs for the
11th Five-Year Plan

1. Ongoing Schemes and Programmes

(various Ministries mainly SSI )
Rs. 6500 Crore

2. 170 Technology Business Incubators &

50 Technology Innovation Centres .
Rs. 1100 Crore

interventions in 7 SME clusters .

4. Information & Communication
Technology
for SMEs (Ministry of SSI)
Rs.160 Crore

5. Development of Special Purpose

Machines
Rs. 50 Crore

6. Promoting Academia-SME interaction for

Innovation ( Engineering Colleges,
Community Polytechnics, ITIs etc.)
CAPITAL SUBSIDY SCHEME FOR
TECHNICAL UPGRADATION

• The scheme would facilitate technology
upgradation by induction of proven
technologies in respect of specified
products/ sub sectors.

• It is not applicable to units going for
upgradation with second hand machinery.

• Entrepreneurs availing of this scheme
FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR
TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT
IN SMALL SCALE SECTOR
1.
2.In India it has been difficult for SSIs to
raise funds.
3.
4.The venture capital funds do provide
finance for SSIs , but their coverage
has been very small.
5.
6.The financial institutions like SIDBI ,
ROLE OF SIDBI IN TECHNOLOGY
UPGRADATION

CONCLUSION

Small and medium scale industries will not

be
competitive if they do not have modern
technology .
For good employment opportunities and
prosperous
economy we do need of it.
Even Government has been playing its role
in better
way but a lot of is expected from
entrepreneurs and
SSIs industry itself.
