INTRODUCTION
ITS is an emerging transportation system which comprised
of an advanced information &telecommunications network
for users , roads & vehicles .
ITS is the integrated application of advanced
technologies using electronics , computrs , communications
& advanced sensors. These applications provide travelers
Wit important information while improving the safety &
Efficiency of transpotation system .

Objectives of ITS
To improve traffic safety
To relieve traffic congestion
To improve transportation effeciency
To reduce air pollution
To increase the energy effeciency
To promote development of realted industries

ITS TECHNOLOGIES
Wireless communications
Various forms of wireless communication technologies
Have been proposed for ITS . Radio modern
communication on UHF & VHF frequencies are widely
used for short & long Range communications.
auto insurance companies have utilized ad hoc
solutions to support ecall & behavioural tracking
functionalities in the form of Telematics.

Computational technologies
Recent advances in vehicle electronics have led to move
towards fewer , more capable computer processors on a
vehicle. The new embeded system platforms allow for more
sophosticated software aplications to be implemented ,
including model based process control, artificial
intelligence & ubiquitious computing.

Floating car data/ floating cellular data

In this method data collection is a set of relatively low
cost methods for obtaning travel time & speed data for
vehicles travelling along streets , highways , motorways &
other transport ways triangulation method where mobile
phones in vehicles

Used for detect their presence vehicle reidentification

method where set of detectors are mounted along the road .
A unique serial number for device in the vehicle is detected
at one place& then detected again further down. In vehicle
GPS where two way communication is used for detecting
vehicle.
SENSING TECHNOLOGIES:
Sensing systems for ITS or vehicle and infrastructure
based networked systems that is intelligent vehicle
technologies. In this vehicle-sensing system include
deployment of infrastructure to vehicle and vehicle to
infrastructure.

INDUCTIVE LOOP DETECTION :

Inductive loops can be placed in a roadbed to detect
vehicles as they pass through the loop's magnetic field.
The simplest detectors simply count the number of
vehicles during a unit of time (typically 60 seconds in the
United States) that pass over the loop, while more
sophisticated sensors estimate the speed, length, and
class of vehicles and the distance between them.
VIDEO VEHICLE DETECTION:
vehicle detection is a Traffic-flow measurement and
automatic incident detection using video cameras.video
detection systems such as those used in automatic

number plate recognition do not involve installing any

components directly into the road surface or roadbed,
this type of system is known as a "non-intrusive" method
of traffic detection.
BLUETOOTH DETECTION:
Bluetooth is an accurate and inexpensive way to measure
travel time and make origin and destination analysis.
Bluetooth is a wireless standard used to communicate
between electronic devices like mobile phones, smart
phones, headsets, navigation systems, computers etc.
Bluetooth road sensors are able to detect Bluetooth
MAC addresses from Bluetooth devices in passing
vehicles.

INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT APPLICATION

Emergency vehicle notification systems:
The in-vehicle eCall is an emergency call generated either
manually by the vehicle occupants or automatically via
activation of in-vehicle sensors after an accident. When
activated, the in-vehicle eCall device will establish an
emergency call carrying both voice and data directly to
the nearest emergency point (normally the nearest E1-12 Public-safety answering point, PSAP).
