Synopsis
Film ini menceritakan tentang seorang pemuda yang bernama Frank Abagnale Jr. yang
mempunyai masalah keluarga dan memilih jalan sebagai con man yang sukses
mendapatkan hampir 4 juta dollar dengan cara menipu, menggelapkan cek, dan
penipuan identitas dengan berpura-pura menjadi co-pilot, dokter, dan pengacara tanpa
jalur yang resmi.
Frank menggunakan pendekatan personal untuk mendapatkan informasi-informasi
yang dapat dia gunakan untuk penipuannya, misalnya saat dia mewawancarai pihak jasa
penerbangan, secara tidak langsung dia mendapatkan informasi untuk dapat meniru copilot, dari mulai seragam, atribut, kebiasaan, bahasa yang digunakan, dan lain-lain yang
biasanya disebut Social Engineering. Dengan hasilnya itu dia mulai meniru sebagai
seorang co-pilot dan mencoba mencairkan cek gaji dengan cek palsu yang dia buat
sendiri. Karena upaya pertamanya berhasil, jadi dia mencoba untuk penipuan dengan
jumlah yang lebih besar. Cara seperti ini tidak hanya membutuhkan informasi yang
dapat dipalsukan, tetapi membutuhkan otak yang cerdik, kemampuan berpikir yang
cepat, dan kemampuan bersosial yang baik.
