Over the years, number of studies have


shown that corruption results in poor
education outcomes like higher dropout rates
and poor enrollments, repeated (failure)
rates, continued schooling through grade 5,
and illiteracy
It does not just affect quality of education. The
wastage of 22.5% of education funds in India
Total monetary value of corruption in education
in the country is estimated to be Rs.4137 crore
per year.

Investigation into a complaint about alleged leakage of the combined pre-
medical examination test (PMT) paper by the criminal investigation
department (CID)

Senior Medical Officer of Amloh Dr Surjit Singh, Fatehgarh Sahib-based


chemist Ranjan Kumar. Their sons had taken the help of imposters to appear
on their behalf. The imposters sat in the entrance examination for around 30
candidates from Punjab who paid sums ranging between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15
lakh each

Ropar SSP LK Yadav, had arrested Bihar-based Dr Shivaji Prashant & Shivaji
Bikas who is a student of Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, and is accused
of serving as a middleman between his brother and candidates who wanted to
secure the services of imposters to give examinations on their behalf and also
arrested imposter Ishwari Patel who had given the PMET paper in place of
Zorawar Sandhu of Punjab

Devinder Singh alias Pappu, an Akali leader from Sirhind, and a tuition institute
owner. His cover was allegedly blown when SP Kunwar Vijay Partap, following
a tip-off, met him pretending to be a PMT candidate. Devinder reportedly fell
for the trap and offered to give Partap a copy of the PMT paper on April 26 —
one day before the exam — for Rs 11 lakh.
