IN SCIENCE
INSTRUCTIONAL PROCESS

PLANNING
Planning is must for every action.
The ultimate aim of planning is to get the best result and in
teaching process ,to get the desired outcomes.
Planning helps to go on with the teaching process in the way
teacher wishes.
Helps reduce repetitions and wastage of time.

Importance of Planning
for a good teaching
Guide in selecting objectives in terms of previous knowledge.
It guides a teacher to organize objectives ,contents and learning
experiences on the basis of modern researchers in the learning of
science.
Guides a teacher to identify and select appropriate strategies and
materials.
Guides a teacher to identify and select evaluation procedures.
Develops in a teacher a sense of security and confidence especially
in a inexperience teacher.

INSTRUCTIONAL
PLANNING
Categorized into :
Long Range Planning : Is the preparation of a general outline
of what will be done within a specified period of a session. i.e.,
a year or a semester.
Short Range Planning: It is the breaking down into small
workable areas called units and daily lesson plans within which
the concept and skills in problem solving are to be developed.

YEAR PLAN
A brief description of unit name, number of periods allotted for
each unit, the prescribed month to teach the particular unit,
special methods adopted if any and special learning aids other
than conventional ones.
Includes the objectives to be achieved.
To formulate a year plan teacher should know
the total working days
Calculation of actual working days
Take into account the unexpected cases causing the
decrease in working days

UNIT PLAN
Refers to a block of interrelated subject matter.
According to Preston a unit is a large block of related subject
matter as overviewed by the learner.
It is a big Gestalt of teaching learning situation which can be
broken up into smaller constituents called lesson plans.

ADVANTAGES

It helps pupils learning of science easier.

It helps to arouse interest of pupils and motivate them to work

more on every topic.

It is easy for pupils to understand the procedures used in

developing each unit.

Steps involved while

developing a unit plan

Selection of appropriate teaching method for teaching every sub unit.

Needs, interest and abilities of learner.
Adequate provision for teacher pupil activities.
Length of unit.
Unit related to physical and social background of learners.
A thorough study of the content in light of objectives.
Should contain teaching aids used, activities given to pupil, evaluation
procedures.
It should be Flexible.
It should be a result of cooperative planning of teacher and pupils.
