DSP CONTROLLED INVERTER FED

INDUCTION MOTOR DRIVE

``
ABSTRACT
A Complete production unit consists primarily of three basic components: an
electric motor ,an energy transmitting device and the driven machine.

Availability of self commutating power semiconductor devices like,IGBT and

GTO have allowed the development of variable speed induction motor drives
for industrial and traction application.

VVVF control of induction motor can be obtained form a voltage source inverter
controlled by mens of DSP processor TMS320F240.

TMS320F240 is capable of executing of 20 million instruction per second and

meets the requirement of an enhanced motor control system.

Presently , IGBT is the most preferred switching device for voltage source
inverter from few KW to several MW.

High clock speed and advanced architecture helps in executing complex motor
Control algorithm and minimization of control loop delays and thereby helps in
achieving high dynamic performance.

Variable voltage &variable
frequency operation
VVVF operation:
1. when the frequency and hence also the
voltages are low, the voltage drop across
the stator resistance cannot be neglected
2. At frequency higher than the rated value
the constant v/f principal is to be violated.
3. Hence the stator flux is maintained
constant, independent of the change in
supply frequency, the torque developed
depends on the slip speed only.
INVERTERS

Inverters used in VVVF operation:

1. Six step inverter: A step is defined as a change in the firing from one thyristor
to the next thyristor in a proper sequence. For one cycle of
360degree, each step would be of 60degree interval for a
six-step inverter.
2.Pulse width modulation inverters: PWM techniques are characterised by
constant amplitude pulses . The width of
these pulses is modulated to obtain
obtain inverter output voltage control to
reduce its harmonics.

CONCLUSION
The DSP controller TMS320F240 combines the performance of
a DSP architecture with the optimized peripherals of micro-
controller in a single chip solution of an induction motor .
With the DSP controller an intelligent control approach is
possible to reduce the overall system cost and to improve the
reliability of the drive system.
