Literacy

We all have a responsibility to develop the literacy of our students, as

stated in the Staff Handbook.
ABBOT BEYNE SCHOOL IS COMMITTED TO RAISING STANDARDS OF
LITERACY IN ALL OF ITS STUDENTS.
EVERY MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY HAS A ROLE TO PLAY IN THIS
PROCESS.

Writing
We want our students to develop increasing competence and confidence in
writing so that they are able to:
write in a widening variety of forms and for different purposes;
present their writing clearly using accurate punctuation and spelling;
organise and develop texts coherently and for effect using sentences
and paragraphs;
use a widening vocabulary.

VCOP
VCOP can be used to set a literacy target for
extended pieces of writing. If you are asking to
students to present an argument, for example, you
could ask them to focus on connectives Use
connectives to show different points of view.
You can use VCOP as part of the redrafting
process they can be used to create EBIs to
develop the accuracy and effectiveness of writing.
When students have finished a piece of writing,
ask them to refer to their VCOP stickers to see
how their writing can be improved.
