What is import?
• Is any good or service brought in from one country to
another.
• Goods & services are provided domestic consumers by
foreign producers.
• Import & export are the basis of international trade
• Balance of trade represent a difference in value for import
& export for a country.
• Involves custom authorities of both countries.
What is export?
 Is any good or commodity transported from one country
to another.
 Goods and services are provided to foreign consumers by
domestic producers.
 Involves custom authorities of both countries.

 Tea • The tea industry is one of the main foreign
industry: exchange gaining industry in Sri Lanka also
became one of the world's leading e
exporter.

• The apparel industry of the country which

industry : • The main exporters are USA and Europe.

• There are about 900 factories throughout


country serves world’s leading fashion
designing companies.
 Agriculture :  Theagricultural sector of the country
which producing domestic consumption
such as rice, coconut and grain.

Imports :

 Foods & • Sri Lanka imports a variety of foods,


including potatoes, orange and Apples
drugs: from the United States and Australia are
also imported.

• Dominant countries Which Sri lanka
and imports vehicles are India ,Japan ,Korea
machines : ,China.

 Petroleum • Sri lanka government expends more than


$1.7 billions per year for imports of
products : petroleum products.
EXPORT PROCEDURE
OF SRI LANKA
• Sri Lanka Export Development Board
• Inland Revenue Department
• Sri Lanka Customs

To register with the above institutions the exporter


is required to produce the original
Business Registration Certificate or Certificate of
Incorporation.
PRODUCT WISE REGISTRATION
 Tea
Sri Lanka Tea Board Registration fee is Rs.10,000/-
and annual renewal charge is Rs.1000/-
 Coconuts & Coconuts Products
The exporters of coconut products should be registered
with the Coconut Development Authority (CDA).The
registration fees are as follows:
* Kernel products - Rs.3000/-
(copra, desiccated coconut, coconut oil, coconut milk
etc.)
* Coconut shell products - Rs.1000/-
* Coconut fiber products - Rs. 1000/-
Gems & Jewellery
The exporters of Gems & Jewellery should
be registered with the National Gems &
Jewellery Authority .In addition to annual
registration all exporters of gems must
obtain gem dealers
Textiles & Readymade Garments
All exporters of garments should be
registered with the Ministry of Textile
Industry Development. All enterprises
registered under BOI law should be
registered with the BOI. license. A license
fee should also be paid.
