TAKAFUL DEFINITION

According to Act 1984 (Takaful Basic

Handbook, 2007), the term Takaful
means a scheme based on
brotherhood, solidarity and mutual
assistance which provides financial aid
and assistance to participants, if
necessary, where participants mutually
agree to give contributions for that
purpose.

HISTORY OF TAKAFUL
Takaful has long been practiced, ie
since the time of the Prophet
Muhammad 1400 years ago. At the
time of the Prophet, the Takaful
system used by him were:

History MAA Takaful

Berhad.

MAA Takaful Berhad is the result of a strategic

joint venture between MAA Holdings Berhad
(MAAH) and Solidarity Company BSC (C) of Bahrain,
the largest takaful companies in the Arab world.
February 21, 2006, a joint venture agreement was
signed with Solidarity, to conduct takaful business.
March 3, 2006, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has a
new Takaful license for the joint venture between
Solidarity of Bahrain and MAAH.
May 2, 2006, MAA Takaful was incorporated with a
paid up capital of RM100 million.
July 1, 2007, MAA Takaful has been awarded a
license to operate as a composite Takaful Operator.
