You as a teacher are faced with a pupil who

has a learning disability.Discuss how you

may apply the theories of learning in order
to help the pupil in the learning process.

Albert Bandura's Theory

Albert Bandura's Theory suggests that
people learn from observing, imitating and
modelling.

Elements of observation
Attention ( implication )
Teachers will make sure that student pay attention
in class. Making better induction in class
regardless of the disability. Stimulating the
students in all senses ( sight, touch, smell, taste,
hear ). As an example, students that cannot see
a shape can always be presented by teacher
through the sense of touch where teacher
present a model of the shape.

Retention ( implication )
Teachers have to repeat / rehearse prior lessons to
students. Teacher cannot abandon the latter
lessons. Making sure the students remember by
giving them techniques, ways, or test so that
they can memorize it better. In addition, teachers
that are teaching students with special needs
should be given flexibility in managing time for
the lesson.

Production ( implication )
Teachers should let the student practice it more
often by letting the students applicate the lesson
learnt by giving homework or practising in
outside the classroom. For students with special
needs, teacher will have to relate the lesson with
what they are doing in their daily live so that they
can practice it. For example, doing charity work
to instill moral value in student.

Motivation ( implication )
Teachers should give the students
reinforcement in classroom so that they
will learn better.

Humanistic Theory
Teachers are to let student try to learn by themselves
before teaching.
Let the student explore what they like and what they do
not like about a specific lesson. Instill curiosity.
Use the best learning materials.
Preparing a very condusive environment for the student
to learn.
Let them explain in what they had studied in the lesson.
Make relation to what they do in their life.
Teachers must show compassion in teaching the lesson

Activity planned should be in accordance to

the ability of the students.
Teacher should be more democratic. Let
the student choose what they want and try
to tolerate the demands if necessary.
There should be more " there is no wrong
answer" in lessons
Teacher should not scold student for not
answering question correctly.
Paying attention to the emotions.
Let student lead.
