• “They are underlying characteristics which
enable someone to perform a job better in
more situations, more often, with better
results.”
• Competencies can be deep seated qualities
of people (motivation, traits etc.) or easily
observed skills or knowledge.
• All competencies can be assessed

can therefore be defined as …

… a behaviour or set of behaviours that


describes excellent/superior performance in a
particular work context (e.g. job, role or group of
jobs, functions or whole organization).
COMPETENCY MAPPING

Competency Mapping is a process of identifying


key competencies for an organization and/or a job
and incorporates those competencies throughout
the various processes of the organization.
