INTERNET OF THINGS

INTRODUCTION
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a recent
communication paradigm
The objects of everyday life will be equipped
with microcontrollers, transceivers for digital
communication, etc.
Enabling easy access and interaction with a wide
variety of devices such as home appliances,
cameras, sensors, actuators, displays, vehicles etc.

INTERNET OF THINGS

INTRODUCTION
The IoT will foster the development of a

number of applications, provide new services

to citizens, companies, and public
administrations
This paradigm nds application in many
different domains, such as home automation,
industrial automation, medical aids, mobile
healthcare , intelligent energy management,
automotive, trafc management etc

INTERNET OF THINGS

HISTORY OF loTS
Birth of the loT in 1989
John Romkey-created the 1st internet device
in 1990- a toaster that could be turned ON and
OFF
Steve Mann-invented wear cam in1994
Pual Saffos-gave the 1st discription about
sensors in 1997

INTERNET OF THINGS

HISTORY OF loTs
Kevin Ashton- introduced the term loT in
1999
Kevin Ashton-invented global RFID-item
identification system
LG announced the smart refrigerator in 2000
RFID was deployed in US army in 2003
In 2008-a group of companies launched the
IPSO (IP in network of SMART OBJECT)

HISTORY OF loTS
Finally the launch of IPv6-triggered massive
growth of IoT in 2011

INTERNET OF THINGS

WHAT IS loT..?
Network of Physical Objects
loT can be simply explained as-connection
between humans-computers-things
Enable objects to exchange data with
manufacturer, operator, other devices through
network infrastructure

INTERNET OF THINGS

WHAT IS loT...?
Allow remote control and monitoring
Automation in all fields

CHALLENGES AND ISSUES

IoT will inherit the drawbacks of the current
internet on an infinitely larger, but more
invisible scale
Privacy will be a huge issue when
implementing IoT
Identity - Online Fragmentation of Identity
Efficiency speed - person loses identity and
is an IP address

CHALLENGES AND ISSUES

Decisions do not delegate too much of our
decision making and freedom of choice to
things and machines

CONCLUSION
Able to collect data available everywhere from
our environment.
IoT is a fascinating industry and would make
life easy to live.
Monitoring and controlling of things are
possible
