Value analysis job plan

Evaluation
Evaluation is a Step in the value
analysis job plan
This phase is a feasibility and cost
analysis phase.
The alternative ideas suggested
during the Creative phase were
refined and analyzed with a view that
whether they could achieve the

This is carried out in two stages:

1. All suggestions were studied and those

which could not be adopted because of
quality, reliability or other basic
reasons were eliminated, and the others
were shortlisted.
2. The ideas shortlisted after the first
evaluation were critically studied and
discussed with the concerned personnel,
for feasibility and practibility of
production. Thus the ideas were further
shortlisted and assigned for feasibility

Evaluation Methods
Ranking Method

This method decides that X is better than

Y ; & Y is better than Z. On this basis list of
priorities are set out in the order of
importance.
This method selects one criterion as the
dominant one and treat the other as
constraints. The ranking is done then.
For example , the criteria may be capital
cost would be the dominant criterion,
the selection may be made on the lowest

Simplified idea rating

It is a quick and effective means to boil down

the many ideas that are generated during the
Creation phase to a more manageable few in
number for further development.
Scoring categories are decided by the team.
Basically two inputs are chosen, each with a 5
point spread.
This process takes approximately 2 hours to
evaluate 100 ideas.

3. Weighting method
This step is better than ranking.
It is done by assigning relative weights to each
criterion

For Example :
To choose a machine on the basis of five factors
We decide that Capacity of the machine is most
important, and give it 10 points.

For judging the ideas, the following

designs were generally considered
A. Function
B. Cost
C. Maintainability
D. Quality & Reliability
E. Space
Each of the above criteria was compared with
other, and depending on their relative
importance, three catagories were formed:
