HOW ARE MEDIA PRODUCT USES CONVENTIONS
OF OTHER REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS
• The genre of are media product is British film. During the research stage of
conducting are media product we looked at other British films which also tackle
the issue of football hooliganism.
• Within those films we found out that the film openings include some sort of
violence to both draw the audience in and also to raise the issue straight away.
We therefore decided to add violence into are film opening for the same reasons.
• Another common convention among British football films is that there is a
main character and this character is also male. Many people stereotype football
with men which therefore makes it a common convention. We chose to stick to
this convention to make sure that we made are audience happy. It is a big risk in
a films over all success to change an element many people expect to see when
watching a British football film.
• Films such as football factory and green street all follow this convention.

HOW ARE MEDIA PRODUCT DEVELOPS
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS
• One way in which are media product develops conventions of real media
products is through the pace of the film opening. British football films generally
start quit fast as it attracts the audience and also makes them aware of the pace
the rest of the film will adopt.
• However are media product takes the pace to a new level. For the first 1.5
minutes the character is running somewhere with great speed. Quick sharp
shots along with quick cuts between shots means that speed is always increasing.
This creates the idea that there is a climax to all this madness and also helps the
audience understand the rush the character is feeling.
• Only 1 of the 8 British football films (Awaydays) we watched during the
research period had the same pace. This therefore proves that are media
product develops this convention.

HOW ARE MEDIA PRODUCT CHALLENGED
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS
• There is one big way in which are media product challenges and goes against the
common conventions of a British football film. This is the use of young teenager
characters rather than adults.
• It is a common convention in British football films for the violence and main
action to take place among adults. However we wanted to show that these
problems do occur among teenagers too.
• This may also help the teen audience to relate and understand the media product
more.
