Definition and Uses


Detergents are mixtures of chemical substances
that is used primarily to remove dirt or soil from
surface or fabric
Detergents (also called syndets) contains surfactant
Surfactants - (Surface Active Agent) substances
that lowers the surface tension of water. With
lower surface tension, water can easily
penetrate dirt and fabric.
Other functions of detergents are stain removal,
whitening, odor removal, brightening
