Types of Cyber-Bullying

Cyber-Bullying is the act of harming or harassing via information technology networks in a


repeated and deliberate manner.

Types of Cyber-Bullying:

A. Texting/Message- is the act of composing and sending electronic message between two
or more mobile phones

B. Picture/Video Messaging- lets you take picture or video with your mobile phone or
smartphone and send it to another mobile devices or email address

C. Email- messages distributed by electronic means from one computer user to one or
more recipients via a network

D. Chat Rooms- an area on the Internet or other computer where users can communicate,
typically limiting communication to a particular topic

E. Social Media- websites and applications that enable users to create and share content
or to participate in social networking

Effects of Cyber-Bullying

For manycyber bullyingaffects their everyday lives and is a constant source of


distress and worry. With mobile technology being so freely available it is an
ongoing issue and one that is relentless. Not only does it go on after school,
college or work has finished, but it then carries through into the next day and the
cycle continues. It has been well documented that cyber bullying has resulted in
tragic events including suicide, and self-harm and clearly, more needs to be done
in order to protect vulnerable children and adults from online bullying.

A. Struggles with academics

B. Feelings of sadness and depression

C. Fear of trusting others

D. Social isolation

Cyber-Bullying Awareness

It is common for those who are being cyber bullied to feel helpless and
like there is nowhere to turn. However, there you can take some steps
toward protecting yourself you can learn where to get help for
cyberbullying. The very first step in the process, though, is to speak with
an adult that you trust about what is going on as soon as you notice a
problem is occurring.

This is how we can combat the issue:

A. Adults have to be aware of dangers of technology

B. Have to create school wide policies

C. Have to create a safe and trusting school

Real Life Cyber-Bullying

Tyler Clementi- Clementi was born on December 19, 1991,inRidgewood, New Jersey. A graduate
ofRidgewood High School, he was aviolinist; he played with the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra
and participated in the Bergen Youth Orchestra as concertmaster.

A few days before leaving home to attend college at Rutgers, Clementi told his parents that he was
gay.While his father supported him, Clementi said in aninstant messageto a friend that his
mother had "basically completely rejected" him.

Who jumped to his death from theGeorge Washington Bridgeon September 22, 2010. On
September 19, 2010, Clementi's roommate, Dharun Ravi, used awebcamon his dorm-room
computer and his hallmate Molly Wei's computer to view, without Clementi's knowledge, Clementi
kissing another man. Clementi eventually found out, after Ravi posted about the webcam incident
onTwitter.

This occurred after a sexual encounter he had with a man in his dorm room was allegedly video
streamed over the internet without Clementi's knowledge, by his fellow first-year students Dharun
Ravi and Molly Wei, and after a second attempt was made by Ravi to record Clementi's sexual
encounters.
