Augmented reality is a live direct or indirect view of physical, real world
environment whose elements are augmented by computer generated
sensory inputs such as pattern, picture, sound, graphic and GPS data. Main

INTRODUCTION
Modern Technology is all about miniaturizing the electronic/electrical systems. The revolution in
communication has brought the human effort to minimum and ease of services. Security has become a
major concern in many fields. Unauthorized access to data or devices creates lot of problems.
The main aim of this project is to design and develop an embedded system for home automation and
security system using smart phone in augmented reality platform, which can be used for real time
application.
Integrated home or Industry enables learner to acquire knowledge about concepts through direct visual,
physical and mental interactions with the objects (may be pattern of house or rooms) or may be with digital
objects.
This project aims at connecting the physical world objects to the digital world. The applications are
developed such that entire home 3D view is displayed on the mobile. The user can control the home by
using that mobile. The smart phone will be connected with the home server through wifi and internet
which in turn is connected to controller. The relay drivers are used to control the devices such as lights,
TV, fan and other electronic devices. The sensors are used to monitor the integrated devices. Cameras are
used to capture live video and for security purpose.

GSM technology has been used for communication between the system and the user.
The user can control the operation of the devices connected to the product from a faraway place. It is
possible by sending a text message in the predefined format to the GSM modem using SIM.
Whenever owner sends a valid SMS to the GSM modem, the message is read and verified for password
and valid command. If the text message is in the predefined format and the password matches with that of
the stored password, then appropriate action will be taken by the ARM controller based on the request
made.
Similarly whenever a security problem occurs, it will be informed to the owner of the product, by
sending an SMS to user mobile. GSM modem can be controlled by standard set of AT (Attention)
commands. These commands can be used to control majority of the functions of GSM modem. The GSM
is used to send the message to nearest police station in case of emergency.

ARM Processor
ARM stands for Advanced RISC Machine. It is the main component of an embedded system. ARM has high
performance with low power consumption and also has Thumb instructions to achieve high code density.
The main advantage is that arm processor can switch between 16 bit and 32 bit mode, which saves lot of
power required by processor, thus mainly used in portable battery operated instruments. Microcontroller
used in this project is LPC2148. Microcontroller processes the incoming data from the sensors and displays
relevant information on the LCD and sends message to the user phone.
It is main heart of the project, to control the other devices and monitor the sensor values.
Whenever the controller reads the sensor values then it perform the specific task.

GSM(Global System for Mobile Communication)

In this project GSM modem is used for communicating with the user and
the controller. It sends the message to user whenever the sensors value is
high.

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)

LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) screen is electronics display module and find a
wide range of applications.
LCDs are economical, easily programmable; have no limitations of displaying special and
even custom characters(unlike in seven segments), animations. In this project LCD is used
to display values of room temperature, light intensity and person presence in the
room.

Sensors
Temperature Sensor (LM35)
The LM35 Linear Temperature Sensor module is used to detect ambient air temperature, and developed
by National Semiconductor Corporation and offers a functional range between -40 degree Celsius to 150
degree Celsius. Sensitivity is 10mV per degree Celsius. In this project temperature sensor is used to
monitor the temperature of each room.

PIR Sensor
A passive infrared (PIR) sensor is an electronic sensor that measures infrared (IR) light radiating from
objects in its field of view. They are most often used for motion detection. PIR sensor helps to monitor
the movement of person in room. Its operating voltage is 3v to 5v, detection range 2-3 meters and
Current drain Less than 50uA.

DR (Light Dependent Resistor)

A photo resistor or light-dependent resistor (LDR) or photocell is a light-controlled variable resistor. The
resistance of a photo resistor decreases with increasing incident light intensity; in other words, it exhibits
photoconductivity. A photo resistor can be applied in light-sensitive detector circuits, and light and dark
activated switching circuits.
In this project LDR sensor is used to monitor the room light intensity. And send the information to ARM
processor.

Gas Sensor (MQ-5)

A gas detector is a device that detects the presence of gas in an area, often as part of a safety system. This type of
equipment is used to detect a gas leak and interface with a control system so a process can be automatically shut
down.
Whenever LPG leakage is detect in room and it sends the signal to the controller.
Detecting concentration scope is around 200-10000ppm for LPG,LNG Natural gas, isobutene, propane Town gas.
Resistance value of MQ-5 is deference to various kinds and various concentration gases. So, When using this
components, sensitivity adjustment is very necessary.
The calibration of the detector for 1000ppm H2 or LPG concentration in air and use
value of Load resistance (RL) about 20K(10K to 47K).

Fire Detector
The Fire sensor, as the name suggests, is a simple and compact device for sensing the presence of fire, it
monitor the room continuously to detect the re in a room. The operating voltage is +5v, detection range is
2m.

Humidity Sensor
Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air. Water vapor is the gaseous state of water and is
invisible. Humidity indicates the likelihood of precipitation, dew, or fog.

Relay
A relay is an electrically operated switch. Many relays use an electromagnet to mechanically operate a
switch, but other operating principles are also used, such as solid-state relays. Relays are used where it is
necessary to control a circuit by a low-power signal (with complete electrical isolation between control and
controlled circuits), or where several circuits must be controlled by one signal.

Stepper Motor
A stepper motor is an electromechanical device which converts electrical pulses into discrete mechanical
movements. The shaft or spindle of a stepper motor rotates in discrete step increments when electrical
command pulses are applied to it in the proper sequence. The motors rotation has several direct
relationships to these applied input pulses. The sequence of the applied pulses is directly related to the
direction of motor shafts rotation. The speed of the motor shafts rotation is directly related to the
frequency of the input pulses and the length of rotation is directly related to the number of input pulses
applied.
In this project stepper motor used open and close gate.

DC Motor
Almost every mechanical movement that we see around us is accomplished by an electric motor. Electric
machines are a means of converting energy. Motors take electrical energy and produce mechanical
energy.
DC motors consist of one set of coils, called armature winding, inside another set of coils or a set of
permanent magnets, called the stator. Applying a voltage to the coils produces a torque in the
armature, resulting in motion.
In this project DC motor used for Door open and close.

Android App content the information about smart home automation.

App should installed in smart phone.
When person open the application, user should enter the user ID and
Password.
After login, user get the information like sensor values etc.
There are two types of app has created
1. virtual image should present in mobile
2. Live video present in mobile
In virtual image app, the user can touch any device then particular device
information send to server.
In live video application, the user having option to get the live direct
video and user can control the device.

ARM processor connected to server by wireless through Zigbee.

Each sensor are connected to ARM processor for monitoring the
condition of room environment.
All type of devices are connected to ARM processor for controlling by
user.
Whenever sensor values are reaches some condition then automatically
trigger the particular device through ARM processor and ARM processor
sends the signal to server and by server user get the information in
mobile.
Each information send to the user mobile by server.
