E AND HIS GENIUS

Srinivasa Ramanujan is
known as an all-time great
Indian Mathematician
Born on 22 nd
December 1887,Erode,
Tamilnadu, India

1887-1920

A thought of 7 years Old

Ramanujan
One day a primary School teacher of 3 rd form was
telling to his students If three fruits are divided among
three persons, each would get one , even would get
one , even if 1000 fruits are divided among 1000
persons each would get one . Thus , generalized that
any number divided by itself was unity . This Made a
child of that class jump and ask- is zero divided by
zero also unity? If no fruits are divided nobody , will
each get one? This little boy was none other than
RAMANUJAN .

Adulthood
He was a self-taught

Mathematician.
He was really good at Maths so
when he took his exam, he
passed in Maths, but failed in
other subjects because of his
disinterest. So , he couldnt
enter the university of Madras for
further studies.
Since he showed extraordinary
talent by himself, people around
him helped to take his
achievements known to the
other Internationally renowned
mathematicians .

He was invited to England

to improve his works by

G.H.Hardy and J.E
Littlewood, who were great
mathematicians.
Hardy and Ramanujan had

two opposite personalities.

As Hardy was an atheist
and believes mathematical
proof and analysis,
Ramanujan was a deeply
religious guy and he
believed in his trustworthy
intuition .
He was

the fi rst elected

Mathematician from India
to the London Mathematical
society and he became a
Fellow of the Royal society.

Recognition of his
Genius
Initially, G. H. Hardy thought that the
works of Ramanujan were fraud
because most of them were impossible
to believe. But eventually ,they were
convinced and interested in his talent.
