Mrs. Sifuentes Science Lab

At our school we are in our third year of the 50:50 model of the Dual Language program. My job as a science lab teacher is to support the classroom teachers with hands-on
science activities. These lessons are taught in English to students in 1st through 5th grade. The classroom diagram in the previous page is last school years science lab set up. Below
you will find a description of the numbered items found in the classroom diagram:
1. In this area I post science anchor charts that we create in class. These anchor charts help my students by proving visual aids on the objectives we are covering.
2. On this shelf you can find my students interactive science journals, as well as writing supplies. Interactive science journals provide students with the opportunity to read, write,
describe, and think about the content they are learning.
3. These book shelves represent our science library where the books are organized by science objectives. I always integrate a science read aloud in my lessons to introduce students to
new science objectives. Thanks to our guided reading program, our students are able to choose books that are at their reading level.
4. The area rug is the perfect place for our science read alouds.
5. This is our science cognate wall. Using cognates is a great tool for acquiring new vocabulary and aiding with comprehension.
6. This is our science word wall. It is a valuable tool for increasing my students science vocabulary.
7. The SMART Board is a great teaching tool. There are many interactive science lessons available, including one of my favorites, a virtual frog dissection.
8. The tables in the science lab are set up so students are able to work in cooperative groups. Since both ELLs and native English speaking students are integrated in my classes, this is
a great opportunity for students to learn from each other.
