TAN SRI SYED MOKHTAR AL-BUKHARY

WHO IS HE?
Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary is the richest Bumiputera corporate figure in Malaysia.
He was born in 1952 at Alor Setar, Kedah and the third of seven children born into a
middle low-class of Hadhrami Arab ancestry.
He owns 51.8% share in Malaysian Mining Corporation via his wholly owned company,
Syarikat seaport terminal (Johore) sdn bhd. a subsidiary company Syarikat Indra Cita
Sdn. Bhd. Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar and Zainal Hatim personally owns SKS Ventures,
which was awarded the task of building the site for 2100MW coal-fired power station at
Tanjung Bin, Johor.
With involvement in diversified business areas which include transportation and
logistics, plantations, property development, defence and armory as well as engineering
and power generation, he has a net worth estimated to be US$2.90 billion according to
Forbes, making him the 8th richest Malaysian.

Syed Mokhtar has founded this foundation
in 1996 which has been build and manage
Islamic Arts Museum that worth RM70
million in Kuala Lumpur although they
carry out many charity work at State of
Kedah and Perak. Through this foundation,
RM1 Billion has contributed / donated to
fund various charitable programs. Through
this foundation, they built and repair 20
mosque to become bright and luminous.

(RM7.9 million - 2500 pilgrims); Seremban 2
(RM7.5 million pilgrims -3000); Kampung
Paroi ; Kampung Gebok , Gort ; Kampung

who succeed brilliantly received a
scholarship to pursue high.
All paid RM40 per hour for tutors to
teach Science and Mathematics and
English , Assistance was channelled to
the state of Pakistan , Uganda , South
Africa and Lebanon with 300
Albukhary Scholarship holders from
more than 47 countries currently
studying Islamic studies in Malaysia.

ALBUKHARY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY


He set up a private university, Albukhary
International University (AIU) in Alor Setar,
Kedah in 2010.
Former Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Sains
Malaysia, Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak was
appointed as Vice-Chancellor AIU. AIU
campus is located in the center of Sharifah
Rokiah at Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Alor Setar.
AIU is fully funded by the Albukhary
Foundation and students are fully sponsored
by the university. The University comprises of
School of Business Studies, School of Social
Studies and School of Computer Science and
Information Technology. Courses are offered in
business, accounting, science and computers.
Community service is incorporated as an
integral part of the curriculum.
