METHODOLOGY

INTRODUCTION
Portable structures are known as demountable buildings or
modular buildings. The Buildings are designed and built to be
movable rather than permanently located.
Portable buildings are basically buildings that are manufactured
in factories and the parts are shipped to the building site where
they are assembled.
A common modern design is sometimes called a modular
building, but portable building can be different in that they are
more often used temporarily and taken away later.
The most familiar modern type of portable buildings are
designed so that one can be carried to or from site on a large
lorry and slung on and off by a crane.
It can be different from prefab buildings by being often used
temporarily and taken away later.

HISTORICAL
BACKGROUND

Portable buildings have been used since prehistoric times,

they have been in use since civilisation frst began to build,
yet because of their impermanent nature it is only recently
that they have begun to be percieved as architecture .

Familiar traditional buildings forms such as the tent utilize

sophisticated constructional techniques and complex
habitation patterns that have not only retained their
relevance for thousands of years but are linked to some of
the most sophisticated building patterns of the present day.

APPLICATION OF PORTABLE
STRUCTURES

Emergency shelters for short term habitation in devastated

area due to natural disasters.

They are also used as a seasonal or temporary buildings,

such as in pilgrim and touristic areas.

Temporarily accommodate labours in construction sites.

Portable structures also used in some events when there is

a need to create temporary spaces for exhibitions, parties
or sports activities.

HOMELESSNESS IN INDIA

Homelessness in India has been a problem for centuries.

Homeless people can either be described as living on the

streets, in prison, in an institution, or sleeping in other
places not meant to be adequate nighttime residences.

According to the 2011 Census, there were 1.77 million

homeless people in India, or 0.15% of the country's total
population

There is a shortage of 18.78 million houses in the country

ADVANTAGES OF PORTABLE STRUCTURES

Custom modular construction: Modular building accelerates
path to occupancy, reduces material waste, ensures exceptional
quality and lessens site disruption.
Simple, easy construction -Because they come in prefabricated
sections and are transportable by design, council approval is usually not
required.
Reduces material waste
